2-Phenylphenol is an organic compound that consists of two linked benzene rings and a phenolic hydroxyl group. It is a white or buff-colored, flaky crystalline solid with a melting point of about 57 °C. It is a biocide used as a preservative under the trade names Dowicide, Torsite, Fungal, Preventol, Nipacide and many others.

Application
2-phenylphenol is very extensive use of organic chemical products, widely used in antiseptic sterilization, printing and dyeingauxiliaries and surfactants, synthesis of new plastics, resins and polymer stabilizer and flame retardant in the field. In Japan, o-phenylphenol and base sodium salt were used for citrus mildew. Wax blended with 0.8% of this product, by spray method in post-harvest citrus, also used with biphenyl, can make the rot to the minimum. Britain and the United States, Canada allows the use of larger scope also includes fruit, apple, pear, pineapple etc. The product is also used as a preservative in cosmetics.
